Corsica is an island about which much has been written and many have enthused. The story of the island cannot be told in mere words and pictures. Its diversity, beauty and charms must be seen to be believed. Many secrets are revealed on journeys along winding mountain roads or visits to many picturesque villages. Admire its Baroque churches, Genoese towers, impressive fortifications and citadels and wonder at its rich Romanesque art. One can also indulge in the magnificent beaches and some of the most outstanding scenery in Europe. The hospitality of the island’s inhabitants and the quality of the local wines and cuisine blend together to create the fundamental essence of this forgotten Mediterranean island, a place unsullied by volume tourism.
Corsica is a continent in miniature with a surface area of 5,000 square miles. It is located 100 miles south of the French coastline and just 50 miles from Italy’s western shores. It comprises more than 600 miles of coastline, famous for its fine sandy beaches, bays, coves and a hinterland where mountain ranges soar to more than 6,000 feet, giving birth to crystalline streams which cascade through the green, aromatic maquis and past picturesque mountain villages to the sea far below.
Corsica’s coastline is dotted with a plethora of sandy and often deserted beaches, some hidden from view from the main thoroughfares. These fabulous beaches are favourably compared with the Caribbean, and many offer the best in watersports.
Corsica will satisfy both the adventurous and less active visitor. Walking tours are especially popular and reveal a range of fascinating and otherwise hidden landscapes which constantly change with the seasons.
Corsica is the ‘Island of Beauty’.
